2024 general election campaign

32bj SEIU

Partner Overview

The 32BJ SEIU is more than the largest union of property service workers in the U.S.—it’s a powerful, transformative movement that uplifts workers, strengthens communities, and builds a more just society. With a commitment to dignity and fairness, 32BJ SEIU empowers workers to shape the future of their jobs, their families, and their neighborhoods.

Driven by the profound impact the 2024 Election will have on people’s lives, we launched a campaign to support three candidates across two states: Angela Alsobrooks for U.S. Senate in Maryland, Suhas Subramanyam for U.S. House in Virginia’s 10th District and Eugene Vindman for U.S. House in Virginia’s 7th District.

Highlights

This case study showcases the impactful work undertaken to support three pivotal races—one of which stood out as a key contest in the recent election—through targeted digital ads, radio and mailer campaigns, and media outreach. 32BJ mobilized voters across Maryland and Virginia to support candidates who are immigrants and people of color: Angela Alsobrooks, a Black woman; Suhas Subramanyam, the son of immigrants; and Eugene Vindman, an immigrant.

Amid the complex political landscape of the 2024 election and challenging national results, all three candidates achieved resounding victories. This success transcends the campaign, symbolizing significant progress for immigrant communities and people of color. In an election cycle filled with hateful rhetoric, discriminatory speeches, and attacks on immigrants and minorities by specific candidates and supporters, this campaign delivered an outstanding outcome—sending a powerful message of resilience and hope.

With over 6.1 million impressions on META and a radio reach surpassing 8.8 million, the campaign made a powerful impact, helping to elevate three candidates in highly competitive races. Their triumphs marked a fingerprint in a critical and complex political context:

Angela shattered barriers, becoming one of the first two black women elected to the Senate.

In Virginia, Eugene’s victory ensures a steadfast advocate for worker protections and a bold challenger to the incoming president’s policies.

Meanwhile, Suhas’s win represents a powerful stride forward for immigrant rights.

However, this campaign was about more than promoting political leaders. It was about amplifying awareness and collective action for the Latino and Black communities whose futures hinge on leaders fighting for equity, justice, and representation.

Goal

The objective was to create a successful digital and print campaign to target voters from Black and Latino communities in Maryland and Virginia’s 10th and 7th Congressional Districts.

Strategy and Implementation

Design and create print materials, digital ads, and radio spots that not only capture voters’ attention but also inform and raise awareness about the election process. These materials spotlight the candidates’ proposals, all aimed at improving the lives of working people.

Media RelationsCreate effective pitches to spotlight Jaime Contreras, Executive vice president of 32BJ, who oversees 32BJ’s work in DMV, Baltimore, and FL. Contreras is a key spokesperson available to give election analysis and discuss 32BJ’s efforts to mobilize voters in favor of those candidates.
