EcoMadres – Advancing Climate Justice in Latino Communities

ECOMADRES

Background

Latino communities disproportionately face air pollution and environmental injustices, yet their voices are often underrepresented in climate justice conversations. EcoMadres, a national initiative dedicated to empowering Latino families in environmental advocacy, partnered with The Communications Shop to elevate their presence, refine their messaging, and strengthen their role as a leading voice in the climate justice movement.

Our Approach

Through a strategic and culturally relevant communications strategy, The Communications Shop helped EcoMadres:

  1. Position climate justice in Spanish-language media, significantly increasing EcoMadres’ presence in national outlets.
  2. Develop bilingual messaging that connects environmental issues to Latino health, family well-being, and civic engagement.
  3. Strengthen coalition partnerships to amplify shared climate justice goals.

Key Success: EcoMadres’ Inaugural Summit

A pivotal moment in our collaboration was EcoMadres’ inaugural summit, “Extreme Weather Impacts on Latina Maternal and Children’s Health,” held on October 25, 2024, in Phoenix, Arizona. The event convened health professionals, policymakers, and climate justice advocates to address the urgent environmental challenges facing Latino families.

As the communications partner, The Communications Shop played a central role in ensuring the summit’s success by:

  • Developing compelling press materials, including bilingual media advisories, press releases, and key messaging documents.
  • Creating engaging visual assets, such as graphics and digital content, tailored for Spanish- and English-speaking audiences.
  • Executing targeted media outreach, securing coverage that amplified the summit’s key messages to the right stakeholders and the broader public.

Impact & Future Plans

Our strategic communications increased EcoMadres’ visibility, built trust with the press, and positioned them as a key player in the climate justice movement. Moving forward, The Communications Shop will continue to:

  • Expand media engagement to keep climate justice at the forefront of public discussions.
  • Enhance storytelling efforts, ensuring that Latino families’ experiences are central to the climate advocacy narrative.
  • Strengthen EcoMadres’ brand presence, reinforcing their leadership in the environmental justice space.

Through our ongoing partnership, we will continue driving awareness, advocacy, and action—ensuring that Latino communities are not only heard but also empowered to lead the fight for climate justice.
