Empowering Hispanic Communities with Critical COVID-19 Information

Challenge:

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Hispanic communities across the U.S. were disproportionately impacted, facing economic hardship, job loss, and limited access to healthcare resources. With crucial information often unavailable in Spanish, thousands of individuals were left without clear guidance on financial relief, healthcare services, and essential needs assistance.

To address this gap, Communications Shop sought to bridge the information divide by ensuring that Spanish-speaking communities had direct access to trusted experts and reliable resources.

Solution:

In April 2020, Communications Shop established a media partnership  with three Telemundo stations serving Spanish-speaking audiences in New England, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C. This partnership allowed for the dissemination of expert guidance on critical pandemic-related issues through trusted, in-language media channels.

Our key contributions included:

  • Expert-Led Information Sessions: Partnered with NPNA and ABIC to provide subject matter experts who offered clear, actionable advice on pandemic-related challenges.
  • Broadcast & Digital Outreach: Ensured Spanish-language accessibility across multiple platforms to maximize reach and impact.
  • Topics Covered: Delivered crucial insights on:
    • Food and essential needs assistance
    • Healthcare resources for at-risk individuals
    • Support for furloughed or laid-off immigrant workers
    • Financial aid for small businesses

Impact:

The Telemundo partnership successfully connected thousands of Spanish-speaking viewers with life-saving resources and financial assistance during one of the most challenging periods of the pandemic.
