Empowering Reproductive Rights with Power to Decide’s “Thanks, Birth Control” Campaign

Challenge

Reproductive rights are fundamental human rights, including the ability to choose if, when, and how to start a family and having access to accurate reproductive health information and services. Power to Decide’s launched their “Thanks, Birth Control” campaign to amplify this message and engage diverse communities. The campaign needed to resonate with Black and Latino audiences, particularly through bilingual communication and digital outreach, while also addressing sensitive issues like abortion access and telehealth for reproductive healthcare.

Solution:

Communications Shop collaborated with Power to Decide to create a comprehensive digital strategy that advanced reproductive rights and increased awareness of key services. Our contributions included: 

  • Bilingual Content Creation: We drafted and distributed bilingual press releases and Op-Eds to ensure messaging reached both English and Spanish-speaking communities. Spanish-language content was also developed for Power to Decide’s Bedsider publication, offering valuable reproductive health information tailored to Latino audiences.
  • Social Media and Influencer Engagement: Communications Shop produced vibrant social media graphics and animated videos and coordinated efforts with 30 online influencers to promote the digital campaign, ensuring it reached a wider, more diverse audience.
  • Digital Marketing Strategies: Our team implemented targeted digital marketing strategies to effectively engage Black and Latino audiences, ensuring the message resonated deeply with these key demographic groups.
  • Podcast Production: We produced a Spanish-language podcast that explored reproductive rights, providing an accessible platform to discuss critical topics related to family planning, contraception, and healthcare access.

Results:

The “Thanks, Birth Control” campaign successfully reached over 50,000 individuals through social media efforts alone, raising awareness and sparking important conversations about reproductive rights within Black and Latino communities.

Expanding Support: Communications Shop’s work with Power to Decide didn’t stop there. We further supported the organization by providing Spanish-language media coverage for two additional initiatives:

  • Telehealth Access for Reproductive Healthcare: We helped raise awareness around the importance of telehealth for reproductive services, expanding access to care.
  • Abortion Finder Tool: Communications Shop promoted the launch of the Spanish-language version of Power to Decide’s “Abortion Finder” search tool, ensuring that Spanish-speaking individuals could easily locate trusted abortion providers in their area.

Conclusion:

Through strategic bilingual communications, influencer engagement, and digital marketing, Communications Shop helped Power to Decide amplify their mission of empowering people with reproductive rights. Our collaboration ensured that crucial information about reproductive healthcare, telehealth services, and abortion access reached diverse communities, fostering equity and justice in reproductive health.
